The fifth annual Stitchdown Patina Thunderdome presented by Grant Stone, Nicks Boots, and Standard & Strange is officially over, so if you’re still harboring any doubt over whether boots (and leather goods!) that are worn hard and taken care of dutifully are the best things in the world, we’d humbly advance that it’s been proven five times over.
And we’re not alone in saying so! One-thousand, four hundred and eleven people cranked down their laces (or buckles, or zippers) last fall. Now that the smoke has cleared and the dust as settled, 797 remain standing.
It has fallen once again to our judges to pare that field down to 80+ winners across this year’s four categories—Open, Work, Pre-Worn, and Leather Goods—and that’s exactly what they’ve done.
But don’t forget that this contest was conceived as way to remind people to actually wear those boots they were having so much fun taking pictures of—and wear them hard enough to that they could take more, cooler pictures. So whether or not your name is below, use this contest to understand leather and footwear better, and to peer a bit into the future of what happens to wonderful things when they are NOT new.
