With each passing year, there’s been a trend with Black Friday sales: it’s not just about the day after America’s Thanksgiving anymore. More and more, we see various makers and shops moving and expanding their sales to take place all over the month of November. Thus, here I am, two weeks before Thanksgiving, already getting a sales roundup put together for you, dear reader.
It is worth noting, as we head into this 2021 holiday shopping season, that these sales can come with a cost—not directly for the shoppers, but for the shops. As our friend Jesper recently noted in his Shoegazing blog, bargain-hunting culture threatens to up-end the footwear industry, particularly the smaller shops and makers, as they’re forced to take smaller and smaller margins on their sales each year due to the cyclone of sales mania.
I hope it isn’t unseemly to bring this up in the preamble for a Black Friday sale roundup, but I want to gently urge you folks to remember to also support these fine makers and retailers throughout the year, when they’re not doing a sale. There’s a reason I’m here telling you about the shoes ‘n’ boots of the week every week.
All these brands and shops have reasons to do a sale right now—they’ve decided it’s the right thing for their business. But the shoe industry thrives when it can actually afford to pay the people who make and sell this stuff. Let’s keep it that way.
In the meantime, since we are doing this sale roundup like we do every year, we’re going to do it hard, and updating constantly—definitely bookmark this page and keep checking back through the end of the month for more and more deals.
